These are some sketch ideas for the story story by Miroslav Penkov called "Buying Lenin." I am expected to spend the rest of this semester using this story as inspiration for work.
I had the the unfortunate fate of growing up in a mediocre suburb, somewhere in New Jersey. But I am of Russian heritage, both of my parents are dissidents of former Soviet Union. I have never had the pleasure of meeting my father and so I can only give credit to my mother for bringing me up. She noticed my talent for drawing at a young age and encouraged me to become an artist. Painting and drawing have always been what I loved to do, and maybe it was all that I could do. So I ended up going to art school and earned my BFA at Pratt Institute in 2008, and now I am earning my MFA at the School of Visual Arts in Illustration. I am due to graduate in 2011.
I also like to write.
